Here at Ipplepen we are rightly very proud of our Colts system, which after many years of investment in coaching, is now recognised as one of the best junior sections in the area.
We have two general aims for our young players. Firstly, to create a positive, fun and safe environment where young people of all ages can enjoy the game of cricket, make friends, be active and generally have a great time. To help achieve this we have a Welfare Officer and a Safeguarding Young People policy to ensure children are safe; we have regular social events for children and their families, and we offer cricket opportunities for all, ranging from tennis-ball Kwik Cricket for the younger and more inexperienced players, through to competitive hard-ball matches in the South Devon Youth League.
Secondly, we try to develop every child into the best cricketer they could be. We aim to have successful teams on the pitch, but with a strong emphasis on the ‘Spirit of Cricket;, and to recognise both individual and team achievements within the club. This is underpinned by an excellent coaching structure which ensures we have a number of ECB qualified coaches, correct coaching ratios, and all coaches, players and club officials must sign up to a “Code of Conduct”.
In 2009 we were able for the first time to run teams in 5 age groups, from Under 9s through to Under 17s, and across the age groups we had a number of players gaining recognition in the South Devon Area and Devon County training squads. But perhaps more importantly than that we had approximately 100 children involved in the cricket club, and we hope to build on the successes of 2009 in the coming year.
Ipplepen is always open to new young players, from complete beginners through to experienced players who may be new to the area, or looking for a new challenge. Feel free to get in touch, come along and see us at our Moor Road ground, or keep up-to-date with all of the latest information through this website.
