During the 2010 season the club will be running two weekly training sessions for our junior players.
Under 9s, Under 11s and Under 13s combined training takes place every Monday evening at Moor Road from 6.30pm to 8pm. Sessions are open to members and new players are welcome to attend a “taster session” before deciding whether to become a club member.
Players are split into groups of approximately 12 – 14 children grouped by age and ability, with a minimum of one ECB qualified coach and a minimum of two responsible adults working with each group. Training sessions include a mixture of technique development, skills-based games, net practice and small sided matches as well as improving physical literacy and general fitness.
Children attending Monday night training should wear suitable clothing for physical activity based on the weather (tracksuit, shorts, cricket whites, etc), and sensible footwear - ideally trainers or cricket shoes – but not flip-flops, crocs or sandals. They may wish to bring a drink (although the clubhouse sells refreshments after training) and in particularly hot weather may need suitable sun protection.
All necessary equipment is supplied but children may bring their own bats, pads, etc should they wish to. Coaches are always available to discuss kit and equipment purchase with parents, and for 2010 it is hoped to start a bat exchange scheme for junior players.
Training for older juniors (under 15s and under 17s) takes place on Thursday evenings during the cricket season from 6.30pm – 8pm alongside senior training, as many players in these age groups are also involved in weekend Senior cricket. Again training may include a range of fitness work, skills development, game situational play and tactical understanding.
Club kit is available, but players are advised to bring their own equipment if they have it. Sessions are open to members and new players are welcome to attend a “taster session” before deciding whether to become a club member.
For any enquiries about junior section training, please contact Colts Manager Chris Partridge, he can be contacted via the website or directly. His details can be found on the “Colts Teams & Contacts Section”, or alternatively on the Colts section of the notice board at the club.
